I wasn't able to work on a comic strip for Thursday morning in time with things going on Wednesday evening at home. So, in lieu of the next installment of our story, here is our second character spotlight to present as a substitute piece. We should be back on Friday with the next part of the current storyline with Popeye and Susie the Sea Nymph reunion.
As mentioned before, if I'm unable to work on a comic strip in time, I will attempt to throw one of these Character Spotlights up.
Also, as I mentioned before, I will be taking Saturdays off and will not be releasing webcomics on this day as I rest or take care of other things. I plan on releasing more of these character spotlights on Saturdays instead because I strive to provide daily content someway and somehow as my own personal goal. (The character bios are quick and easy for me to do and I stock them up in advance).
So, our second character spotlight from my SEA SHANTY FUNNIES "alternate universe" is our version of Olive Oyl. And if you haven't seen the clues yet throughout the webcomics thus far, yes.... she is indeed married to Popeye in my little universe and continuity that you are following along with.
Also, in my illustration, if you're wondering why Olive is wearing glasses?
That's because she did in one cartoon. I'm bringing back Olive's reading eyeglasses and once again reinstating her as a Public Stenographer as shown in the 1937 cartoon feature "The Paneless Window Washer". I'm making that part of my current continuity in this alternate universe version. I always thought that suited her being an independent woman way back then. Kind of reminds me in a weird way of Elaine from Seinfeld or Donna Reed as the librarian (n the alternate universe scene in "It's A Wonderful Life") when they put on their glasses on occasions.
For those curious and would like to watch the old cartoon, here it is on YouTube with Olive as the glasses wearing stenographer (that somehow fits in my own "head canon" somehow) if you follow the link...
